Although Duff was born and raised in Britain, she has devoted much of her acting career to Irish subjects.
Sinners and The Magdalene Sisters saw her featuring in exposes of the brutal hypocrisy of the Catholic faith with the latter even attracting the opprobrium of the Vatican.
She also performed alongside Kate Winslet and Dougray Scott in Enigma and took the lead role in Bill Britten's Mild and Bitter.
She began her TV career in Lynda Le Plante's acclaimed drama Trial and Retribution and also had roles in The Aristocrats, the Way We Live Now for the BBC and Dr Zhivago.
At the National Theatre she has appeared in War & Peace, King Lear and Richard Eyre's La Grande Magia.
