When care worker Stephen (Little) and single-mum Anna (Duff) enjoy a brief encounter at Wandsworth Common railway station it's love at first sight.
However, there are complications. He's trapped in a new flat and a relationship that's run out of steam…but he's too kindly to do the decent thing.
She's a single mum living with her young daughter and half-heartedly pursuing an affair with feckless married next-door neighbour Rupert Graves.
To complicate matters she's also best friends with his cuckolded wife Jem (Zoe Telford) and also having problems with her estranged husband.
Debut writer-director Roger Goldby's accomplished romantic drama is boosted by luminous performances from Little and Duff as the right couple in the wrong relationships.
It's a nuanced, naturalistic exploration of the vagaries of love and also manages to shoe in some touching comedy moments.
A top notch cast also includes Phyllida Law and Frank Finlay as an amnesiac widower whose own happy marriage is the inspiration for Stephen and Anna.
You don't envy the Wandsworth branch of Relate.
