Aimed squarely at pre-teen girls (and their mothers), this Disney skating movie is a likeable reworking of that old chestnut about a girl who risks everything to follow her dream. Casey (Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Michelle Trachtenberg) is a science geek whose mother (Joan Cusack) is desperate for her to go to Harvard. But Casey has another passion - ice skating - and, predictably, is so brilliant at it that she can overcome all the obstacles in her way. The only thing is, her strong-minded mother still disapproves... There is some complexity in the characters, and a subtlety in their relationships, making the film more punchy than many other coming-of-age tales. Sex and the City's Kim Cattrall plays Casey's ruthless coach.
