This was the first of director Wes (The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou) Anderson's films and it's a quirky tale, with off-beat characters, good music and the weirdest of scenarios all about the unpredictability of life and love.
Teenage nutcase and obnoxious troublemaker Max (Jason Schwartzman) has a finger in every eccentric school pie, he's written a couple of promising plays and considers himself above everyone.
Naturally, everyone hates him, and his grades are taking him close to expulsion.
This nerd-with-attitude strikes up an oddball friendship with harassed millionaire Blume (Bill Murray) until they both fall for a teacher (Olivia Williams) who's twice Max's age and half Blume's.
This oddball tale warms up towards the end, but may be too offbeat for most.
