In Love and War

Romantic wartime drama based on the memoir by travel writer Eric Newby, starring Callum Blue and Barbora Bobulova. A British PoW in World War Two Italy falls in love with a beautiful woman who comes to his aid. With Peter Bowles.

Callum Blue does well as a British officer who finds himself made a PoW in 1943. When the Italians are defeated, all the PoWs are released and Blue stays where he is, falling for the beautiful daughter (Barbora Bobulova) of an anti-fascist villager. But then the Nazis arrive to round up the Brits... Based on Eric Newby's memoirs of his wartime experiences, this enjoyable TV movie's spirited script is well honed by John (Rumpole of the Bailey) Mortimer.
