Three Oscars (including Best Director for Ang Lee) were the reward for this gay Western about two cowboys (Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, both Oscar-nominated). Sent on a year-long job as sheepherders on scenic Brokeback Mountain, the duo fall in love. But it's the early Sixties, so both marry and raise families, although over the years they manage to meet up on 'fishing trips'. This intelligent, first-class heart-tugger is a marvellous movie, and performances are excellent, with Ledger outstanding, catching all his character's pent-up torment. [Copyright: DQ/DH/DW]
