Carrey Ups Child Support
Jim's daughter should get her home Pilates studio...Comedian Jim Carrey has ended a battle over child support with his ex-wife Melissa.
She argued $10,000 a month was not enough for their 15-year-old daughter, Jane, and asked for a "significant" increase.
Carrey and his former
wife have now come to an undisclosed agreement.According to court documents, Melissa Carrey said her daughter's needs had increased with her age.
She wanted to build her a Pilates exercise room and a music studio at home.
Melissa, whose divorce from the comedian and actor became final in 1995, claimed their daughter was accustomed to a more "prestigious lifestyle" when with her multi-millionaire dad.
While details of the out-of-court settlement were not released, original court documents suggest the settlement must have been quite a sum.
Not only was Melissa looking to increase her daughter's monthly cheques, she also wanted to build Jane a $200,000 private gym and music studio, buy the 15-year-old her own car and "would like to take her on at least one skiing trip per year".
According to the documents, she and Jane share a "modest" home in Hollywood, and she can only afford an allowance of $40 a week.
Melissa said: "We do not have a swimming pool, tennis court or gym," adding that Jane was forced to take tennis lessons and Pilates classes at local clubs.
Lucky for Carrey, this latest settlement is unlikely to damage his bank balance too much.
The star of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Liar Liar has just received $25m for his latest comedy, Bruce Almighty.
