Barbara Rush
Born: January 4 1927
Where: Denver, Colorado, USA
The actress is probably best known as the woman who loses out to Paul Newman for a job in 1959's The Young Philadelphians.
Other highpoints include her role opposite Frank Sinatra in Come Blow Your Horn and she also had key roles in The Young Lions, The Man and an amusing supporting role in 1980's Can't Stop the Music.
Rush entered films at the tail end of the studio system, making her debut in a small role in Molly in 1950.
She went on to play leading ladies in some top pictures, but appeared in numerous forgettable ones before breaking into TV in the 1960s.
Although Rush won her first leading roles in such Paramount films as The First Legion she is probably better remembered as Joan in The Young Philadelphians.
