A Gun Crazy for the Eighties. A totally contrived entertainment, this thriller, a glossy remake of the French classic with Jean-Paul Belmondo, nonetheless exercises an extremely potent tug on our attention - notably from Richard Gere as the macho, hipster small-time crook who almost accidentally kills a cop with the gun he finds in the glove compartment of the car he's stolen and is clearly a doomed figure from then on. The nerve-end performance from Gere dragged in female fans in their millions.
