Sophia Loren, in a decidedly unglamorous role, plays a New York housewife who becomes an undercover agent for the D. E. A. when she discovers her son's drug addiction. Billy Dee Williams plays the dashing detective with whose aid she takes on a billion-dollar crack ring and Hector Elizondo (the avuncular hotel manager in Pretty Woman) plays her worried husband. This gritty real-life drama was based on the article 'Mother Courage' by Michael Daly in a New York magazine.
