A troubled, blocked author, divorcé Roger (William Katt), comes to stay in his deceased aunt's creepy old house which he once lived in as a child and has now inherited. This is the place where his son disappeared in strange circumstances and soon Roger is experiencing mysterious events himself, some related to his time in Vietnam and his guilt over the desertion of a colleague. The film takes the supernatural elements and makes light of them, and though the line between horror and ha ha is finely drawn, this approach mainly succeeds, as did the whole Scream idea years later. Special effects aren't bad, and there are some surprises and funny ideas that work well.
