Ally Sheedy gives an effective tormented performance in this arresting psychological thriller as the heroine with psychic powers. She is pulled in by the cops to track down a serial killer, who, in a neat, scary twist, turns out to have the same powers. Screenwriter Rockne S O'Bannon, in his directorial debut, whips up some eerie suspense while he concentrates on well-orchestrated set-pieces: the dash to save detective Stan Shaw's children, the high-speed drive to the laundromat to head off the killer and the fairground showdown. Sheedy's appeal triumphs over the story's cliches.
