There's nothing left of the scenery by the end of this inane sex comedy. It's been chewed up and gorged on by a cast of actors who attempt to upstage each other mercilessly, creating havoc throughout a flimsy plot. It's sad to see such a distinguished director as Billy Wilder sink as low as this 'romp' about a Las Vegas lounge singer stuck in a small American town. The name of the town featured - Climax, Nevada - gives the clearest indication of the level of humour. Dean Martin, in the central role of the nightclub crooner, needed a firmer hand than Wilder gives to curb his worst excesses. Peter Sellers was to have featured, but had a heart attack. He was well out of it. This does have something of a cult reputation, though, so you may care to make up your own minds.
