This gripping thriller earned an `X' certificate from the British film censor on release in 1972 thanks to its drug-related theme and hero who's a drug pusher. Kris Kristofferson - in a role that reflects in some ways his own personality - is a singer/songwriter whose star faded with the end of the swinging Sixties. At the barrel of a gun he is forced back into the drugs scene by the bitter cop (Gene Hackman) who once arrested him, and now wants a personal pension to cushion his retirement from the force. Kristofferson adds five of his own songs to the soundtrack, including Lovin' Her Was Easier.
