This football-flavoured comedy was the second major film vehicle for singer-comedian Dean Martin and his manic partner Jerry Lewis. The film isn't terribly good, but the public totally ignored critical opinion and had made the team America's top film attractions by the following year. Much of their thunder is stolen here by raucous Eddie Mayehoff, as Lewis' domineering father (Mayehoff took the character into a TV series), but the comedy routines drop to earth with a dull thud and, as with the boys' film The Stooge a year later, it's the sentimental aspects of the plot which work best.
