It's good to see Steve Martin in outright comedy and this one's a lot of fun. He's a laugh from the start as a Mafia gangster transplanted by FBI agent Rick Moranis to Anytown America as part of the witness relocation programme. Naturally the Mafioso can't keep his fingers out of crime, not that he's fazed when DA Joan Cusack keeps arresting him: he knows Moranis will keep him out of jail and well protected from hitmen. Dotty dialogue and bags of action make this one of Martin's snappiest and cleanest comedies. (DQ/IR )
