Catherine Ohara

Catherine O'Hara

Born: 4 March 1954
Where: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

The comedy actress is probably best known for her work with Christopher Guest on his spoof documentaries Best in Show, A Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration.

After joining the Second City improvisational company, she transferred the show in 1976 for the groundbreaking comedy series Second City TV, which earned her an Emmy for writing.

She made her feature debut in the little seen Nothing Personal with Donald Sutherland and went on to appear in After Hours, Beetlejuice and Dick Tracy as Texie Garcia.

Subsequent work included Betsy's Wedding, Home Alone and Home Alone 2 as well as providing the voices of Sally and Shock in Tim Burton's animated The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Other parts have included Allie Earp in Wyatt Earp, Mrs Lever in Home Fries and Sheena in The Life Before This.

In 2000, she began her association with Guest as Cookie Guggleman Fleck in dog show spoof Best in Show.

In 2002, she starred in the enjoyable comedy Orange County before reuniting with Guest for his folk music parody A Mighty Wind.

She has directed television episodes of Dream On and The Outer Limits and wrote, co-starred and co-directed PMS, a short film for Late Night with David Letterman.

"I lived in LA for a few months. It seemed like no one there had parents. Or if they did have parents, they would deny it.

In 2004, she starred in the disappointing festival movie Surviving Christmas with Ben Affleck and played Justice Strauss in Lemony Snick's A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Recent work has consisted of voice work in the likes of Over The Hedge and the wonderful Monster House as well as Guest's Hollywood satire For Your Consideration.
