This comedy attempts to say just too many things about relations between the sexes as it explores one night for a couple on a date, who tell white lies and half-truths to make themselves more attractive to each other. The trouble is that it's too glossily packaged and slick for such a rough and ready idea. Martin Short and Annette O'Toole, as the couple hiding their true selves behind false fronts, are talented entertainers, but face an uphill task here with comic gags used all too often to break up the sexual tension.
