The actress made her breakthrough as failing singer Blanche "Monica" Moran in Steve Kloves' The Fabulous Baker Boys.
She went on to land an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of a hopeless actress in Woody Allen's Bullets over Broadway.
Recently, she has won a whole new legion of fans with her appearances opposite killer doll Chucky in the Child's Play series.
After attending Belmont High School in Victoria, Canada, she studied drama at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.
She made her small screen debut in the TV series Boone and was first seen on the big screen in the Demi Moore comedy No Small Affair in 1984.
Usually cast as provocative sex-kitten types, Tilly appeared in the recurring role of a Mafia moll who snares a straight-laced cop on Hill Street Blues.
She also gave a charming performance as an auditioning singer/waitress in Steve Kloves' The Fabulous Baker Boys in 1989 and later appeared in supporting roles in Made in America and The Getaway.
Her star-making performance came in Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway in which Tilly played Olive, the girlfriend of a Mafioso determined to be taken seriously as a dramatic actor.
Subsequent appearances included the comedy Liar, Liar opposite Jim Carrey and her first appearance as Tiffany - wife of Chucky - in 1998's Bride of Chucky.
As well as acting she has provided voiceovers for Monsters, Inc. Stuart Little and Lil' Pimp.
Subsequent roles includes Jericho Mansions with James Caan and Genevieive Bujold and the voice of Grace the cow in Disney's Home on the Range.
Recently, she reprised the role of Tiffany in the horror-comedy Seed of Chucky.
