This well-written, involving drama of drug and alcohol addiction is a little too long but is lit up by its actors. Michael Keaton is very good as a yuppie cocaine addict, Morgan Freeman is sterling as the head of the drugs rehabilitation unit, Kathy Baker, in particular, is heartrending as a fellow patient and it's M Emmet Walsh's best role in years. It's not as downbeat as you'd expect, thanks to the cluster of telling performances.
