Flawed but underrated action comedy which works extremely well for the first hour but then begins to go off the rails.
Until then, though, there are some sparkling exchanges of dialogue between Dennis Hopper as the ex-hippie hero now being escorted to justice and Kiefer Sutherland, as his young FBI captor.
Hopper gently guys his own image, and Sutherland is in particularly sharp form at the beginning of the story: scenes between them on a train are the best in the film.
There are also some nice comic moments later on, notably a sequence involving a Christmas tree.
Once Sutherland's own hippie background comes into play, though, the film is never the same force.
