Bram Stoker's Dracula

Francis Ford Coppola delivers a massively stylish, sexy and Oscar-winning adaptation of the classic vampire tale. Young lawyer Harker (Keanu Reeves) is captured and imprisoned by the undead Count Dracula in the mists of Eastern Europe. Gary Oldman's Count then travels to London having become obsessed with Mina, Harker's betrothed (Winona Ryder).

Bram Stoker's Dracula

An Oscar winner for costume design, this new version of the vampire legend flaunts its sense of style with some justification.

The opening sequence showing Dracula's origins being particularly breathtaking.

The scenes in Edwardian England are pretty good too, and Gary Oldman's count proves an evil and convincing seducer, making this one of the sexiest Draculas in memory.

There's lots of blood-letting as well, but what is missing is any sense of fear or real horror.

The down side includes Anthony Hopkins' unexpectedly camp performance as Van Helsing and Keanu Reeves' embarrassing attempt at an English accent.

Chuckles and creeps here, then, but nary a chill. Winona Ryder is suitably pale and haunted-looking as the chief damsel in distress.

Watch out for Italian superstar Monica Bellucci as one of Dracula's brides.

Excellent adaptation, Gary Oldman makes a superb Count Dracula. Some superb camera trickery in the castle scenes involving Dracula's shadow (with a mind of its own..), and some good special effects. The Musical score is ideal for the film as well. However, Keanu Reeves badly lets the whole thing down, with his am-dram accent, and hair that seems to change colour between scenes. Overall though, a good take on the classic story.
