The actress first attracted plaudits for the low-budget drama Nora, about Irish writer James Joyce's wife.
However, she had appeared in supporting roles in a number of films including The Secret of Ronan Inish and Waking Ned.
The daughter of an Irish father and Italian mother, Lynch got her start performing plays in Gaelic and attended London's Central School of Speech and Drama.
She made her feature debut in the psychodrama Circle of Power and was noted for he peformance as a killer in TV's Cracker with Robbie Coltrane.
Director John Sayles then cast her as a mythical half-seal, half-human Sekie in The Secret of Ronan Inish.
She appeared briefly as a Paris whore in Interview With A Vampire and played Maggie O'Toole in the gentle Irish comedy Waking Ned.
Following Nora, Lynch starred alongside Iain Glen in the black comedy Beautiful Creatures and starred in the thriller Happy Now.
In 2001, she starred in the Jack the Ripper chiller From Hell with Johnny Depp and also appeared in John Sayles' adoption drama Casa de los Babys.
Recent work includes Richard Jobson's feature debut 16 Years of Alcohol with Kevin McKidd.
