A quintuple handkerchief movie, this silly but wildly engaging romance works because Mel Gibson and Isabel Glasser really do give a feeling of total love, as he roars across the skies testing new fighter planes in 1939. Before he can pluck up the courage to propose, a road accident takes her out of his life, seemingly forever, into a permanent coma. Utterly shattered, Gibson volunteers for a cryogenic experiment, to be frozen for a year. He wakes up 50 years later, seemingly no older. Then he catapults out of the clutch of a disbelieving military, and into the life of a divorcee nurse (Jamie Lee Curtis), whose son (Elijah Wood) released him from his ice prison.
