Alan Alda made his film starring debut in this gentle comedy about a reporter who becomes a member of a professional football team. His engaging performance elevates what is essentially a one-joke film. Footballer Alex Karras, who would later carve out his own successful film career, also made his debut here as an actor. Sharp-eyed fans of Roy Scheider should keep their eyes peeled for can early cameo appearance. This is one sports film that is likeable enough for non-sports fans.
