Barbara Eden does her Private Benjamin bit in this rather lame and clichéd made-for-TV comedy about an over-protective mother who joins the army (by claiming she's a deserter) to get her son out. All the predictable sight gags and mishaps that you saw in the Goldie Hawn film are there, as is the made-the-grade ending. The reliable Hector Elizondo has little to do but scowl as the tough sergeant. This ho-hum effort was directed by Anson Williams, best known for being Potsie Weber, Richie's pal in Happy Days. Eden gamely gives it her best shot but she's not helped by the terrible, ear-hurting music score.
