Part love story, part thriller and part comedy, this is the Bonnie and Clyde-style story of two juvenile misfits on the run. He (James LeGros) is an ex-killer on parole, she (Drew Barrymore, then in a run of 'bad girl' roles) is a poor, mixed-up teenager in a dead-end town. They share an obsession with guns, a passion for each other - and a background of murder soon develops. Barrymore does well with her character, a bored, sluttish 16-year-old who, desperate to be loved, starts corresponding with a prisoner (LeGros) and so begins a long-distance love affair that develops into a touching study of loneliness and doomed love. Despite the modern adult themes, it's almost like an old-fashioned, good-quality B movie.
