Janet Leigh plays a former movie queen who plots her return to Broadway by faking the suicide of her wealthy retired physician husband, who stands in her way, in this above-average case for Lt Columbo. One of Hitchcock's favourite leading ladies, Leigh brings more than a touch of glamour to the proceedings, though, as ever, Peter Falk's crumpled detective cracks the case. With such a clean-up record, it's a mystery why the chap never received promotion! Director Harvey Hart seems more interested in his work than the average Columbo director, resulting in a decent quota of tension, surprises and jumpy moments.
