Directed by Chris Walas, a special effects makeup whiz, this is a psychological thriller-cum-black comedy which fails to convince as either. When uptight businessman Bill Paxton (star of Twister) buys himself a new pad, he doesn't bank on the last occupant, vagrant Marshall Bell, living outside, having such easy access. As Bell and Paxton lay siege to each other, Paxton's life gradually falls apart, and the appearance of a shady serial killer doesn't help. The inevitable final confrontation is gruesome, but, with little emotional depth to the characters, it's hard to sympathise, or to laugh at such grim humour.
