A weepie that pretends to be gritty and biting, but takes the shortest possible route to the tear-ducts without too much credibility. Still, a cast that's really too strong for the material gives good value to the story of a boy who, finding he had been stolen in infancy and sold for adoption, sets out to find his real parents. Patty Duke steals the acting honours, making the most of small but telling moments in a remarkable portrayal of the ageing mother who has never got over the loss of her infant child.
