There was much conjecture that this romantic comedy echoed star Burt Reynolds' real life in that he plays a man called Buddy (his own nickname) who wants to father a baby though he isn't married. Easy enough? Not the way Burt goes about it in a fun film which steers clear of the rocks of reality and contains some witty exchanges between Reynolds and Juanita Moore as his sardonic housekeeper. "What does the name Erasmus mean?" he asks her. "That means your child won't have friends," she answers.
