Dr Strangelove Or: How I learned To Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb Submit your own review for this movie

Dr Strangelove

Peter Sellers takes three roles in this classic black comedy from Stanley Kubrick. Mad US General Jack Ripper launches a pre-emptive nuclear strike against Russia when he becomes convinced the communists are conspiring to pollute the "precious bodily fluids" of the American people. Sellers plays the three men who might avert the tragedy, including former Nazi genius Dr Strangelove.

Dr Strangelove

A black comedy on a nuclear theme, it has the inimitable Peter Sellers triumphant in a trio of roles.

Most famous is Strangelove, the scientist whose artificial arm repeatedly makes a Heil Hitler sign as an involuntary reflex action).

There's also two splendid co-stars in George C Scott and Sterling Hayden, and an impressive supporting cast which includes Keenan Wynn, Slim Pickens and Tracy Reed.

Sellers and Wynn share what is the film's funniest scene, involving a telephone call to the American President.

Triumphantly anarchic stuff: Watch out for James Earl Jones in his film debut.

Peter Sellars takes on three roles and plays them all to absolute perfection. So many classic moments of cinema come from this film. The hand wih a mind of its own, the slip of a tongue revealing the Nazi leanings of Dr Strangelove and, of course, the cowboy pilot riding the bomb to the ground like a bull at a rodeo. One of my favourite quotes is in referance to Kubrick. "Stanley Kubrick didn't make a lot of films, but when he did, by hell did he make a film".

Manic comedy genius which, despite it's Cold War setting, seems to hold just as accurate a description of modern diplomacy. Peter Sellers is at his best here and Stanley Kubric's direction seems to fit this manic comedy script very well.
