A first-class one-act play is transformed into first-rate TV drama in the experienced hands of Anne Bancroft and Hector Elizondo. She is the title character, a middle-aged mother who feels life has lost all meaning. Then her head is turned by the innocent attentions of Billy, a supermarket packer, whose accidental death in the store's car park sets off a tragic chain of events. Hector Elizondo, best known as the hotel manager in Pretty Woman, is Lt Angel, a detective who hears Mrs Cage's confession to murder. To watch these two great actors at work is sheer joy.
