A fast and furious futuristic film with echoes of Things to Come and Metropolis. Although it won no acting Oscars, this is a visually imaginative action fantasy, whose praiseworthy production design creates a ghetto city rising to orange skies through which spacecraft buzz like hornets and mosquitoes. The rule of law is administered by motorbike-riding 'judges', the most feared of whom is Sylvester Stallone's Dredd, an artificially-created judge who recognises nothing but the law. But there are elements who want him out of the way, and his evil brother (Armand Assante) seems the ideal tool. There's a smashing airborne chase on flying motorbikes and lots of massive baddies for Dredd to beat.
