Writer Bryan Williams adapted his own play here and has unfortunately concentrated more on the effect than the drama, leaving usually dependable actors like Barnard Hughes and Geraldine Fitzgerald floating without an anchor. The plot, about a young Hispanic lad (David Hernandez), deals with passion and prejudice in a rundown American town, but the dialogue, which is more reminiscent of a Twenties melodrama than a contemporary TV movie, strangles the film before it can really get going, making the exchanges between the cast self-conscious. At least once-prominent director Elliot Silverstein (he made Cat Ballou) has managed to provide a few visually interesting moments, but he really should have held much tighter to the reins on this one.
