There are lots of good things in this pounding action film about greed, even if it does finally get too silly. But the eerie sight of boats first gliding, then speeding through a flooded town and its environs, while rain still pours down, marks this one out as no ordinary crime movie. Security truckers Christian Slater and Edward Asner are heading out of town with $3million in the back, which is just what Morgan Freeman and his gang have been expecting. The truck gets stuck in flood water, there's an exchange of fire and Asner's killed. Slater flees with the money, hiding it to prevent the gang killing him. What follows is an explosive, often thrilling game of cat-and-mouse as the sheriff (Randy Quaid) hunts the crooks; a girl (Minnie Driver) and an elderly couple become involved; and sides switch around just when you've figured out who was after what. It goes on a shade too long, with one shoot-out too many at the end.
