Griffin Dunne and Annette O'Toole bicker and row convincingly in an emotionally-powered melodrama about a too-quickly married couple who have problems with their love life. As usual in the movies, everything soon gets worse, and in this case that comes in the shape of Tony Goldwyn as a womanising married friend who arrives at the door with his mistress for a murky night of muckiness, meddling and muddling. The three good players do their best with the unintentionally tacky and tasteless material, which may be more fun in its longer unrated version. But here it just seems like a poorly written porn film with all the sexy bits cut out. Much of the dialogue strains limply to convince, keeping realism and sensitivity at a low level.
