Marton Csokas

Born: 30 June 1966
Where: Aotearoa, New Zealand

The actor's diverse roles have ranged from warrior Celeborn in Lord of the Rings to a psychopathic wife killer in Asylum.

Of Hungarian and Kiwi parentage, he pursued a wandering education, studying art history in Canterbury University, Christchurch, before settling on an acting career.

"There are so many different ways to say things like, "I love you", and the audience reactions can be very, very different every night."

After graduating in 1989, he worked in cafes to make ends meet and performed in dozens of small-scale productions as well as founding the Stronghold Theatre.

A part on hit New Zealand soap opera, Shortland Street, led to his role in the 1996 drama Broken English.

However, the following year he landed his break - and a major female fan base - with the role of Borias in Xena: Warrior Princess.

In 2000, he appeared in the crime thriller The Monkey's Mask and went on to be cast by Peter Jackson in LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring.

He also landed an (uncredited) role in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones as well as the part of Russian anarchist Yorgi in xXx opposite Vin Diesel.

Subsequent unmemorable performances included Kangaroo Jack and Timeline before he starred alongside Matt Damon in the excellent thriller The Bourne Supremacy.

In 2005, he starred in Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven and played a psychiatric patient in David Mackenzie's Asylum opposite Natasha Richardson.
