Set in 1958 Somerset, this tragedy seems to belong to another era. Largely shot in brown, its ooh-arrh goings-on have Samantha Morton as demure Eva, pining for cousin Joseph (Rupert Graves) who has lost a leg in one a'they quarry accidents. Pursued by young farmer Harry (Lee Ross), Eva moves in with him for no apparent reason other than to validate the film. Addicted to pigs, boxing, nosebleeds and floozies, Harry soon loses his attraction for Eva and, when Joseph comes back into the picture, she flees the pig farm and falls into his arms, sighing 'I love the words that fall out of your mouth' before giving her all. A film which has parted company with reality early on gets more and more ludicrous before a mercifully abrupt ending.
