The story of love and betrayal that bound together two of our most celebrated poets - Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth - comes to the screen in a BBC Film with a load of good intentions, a cast of decent actors, an unexpected director and a reasonable budget. Alas, Linus Roache and John Hannah misjudge their performances and director Julien Temple miscalculates his film pretty badly. With Wordsworth spouting lines like 'I wandered lonely as a cow', Coleridge quaffing opium, a plane's cloud trails in the sky and Emily Woof going bonkers as Wordsworth's incestuous sister Dorothy, this is Ken Russell territory, but it was a lot more fun - and more informative - when old Ken used to do it.
