That excellent comedy craftsman Norman Taurog directed this spoof western loosely based on the 1936 Bing Crosby vehicle `Rhythm on the Range' (which was also directed by Taurog). Jerry Lewis as the simple-minded son of a rich mother is the centre of the film and his fans will enjoy some bouts of inspired clowning. `Young' cowhand Dean Martin croons away in a splendid parody of backwoods music, Lori Nelson is a charming heroine and Agnes Moorehead is in fine fettle as the formidable Mrs Kingsley. A terrific cast of heavies, including Lon Chaney Jr, Jack Elam and Lee Van Cleef, wildly exaggerates the villainy.
