Three Amigos!

Chevy Chase, Steve Martin and Martin Short kept the saddles of comedy blazing with this joyously daft western. They are the silent screen heroes who, in the 1920s, are mistakenly hired to rid a Mexican village of a fearsome bandit and his army of heavies. But what's the use of bad songs and fancy dance routines against cold steel and frightening moustaches?

The idea of having three wimpy silent movie cowboy heroes coming to the aid of Mexican villagers in an affectionate spoof of The Magnificent Seven and The Wild Bunch is a good one, especially with Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short in the title roles as Lucky Day, Dusty Bottoms and Ned Nederlander. Three Amigos!

Even if the execution by director John Landis is ham-fisted, and the script often weak and illogical, there are lots of funny scenes to relish in a good-natured movie.

Mexican villain Alphonso Arau had a similar role in The Wild Bunch and Elmer Bernstein, who wrote the theme for The Magnificent Seven, also wrote the music here.

This is another great comedy. Some classic moments and classic scenes, especially when they are in the bar and sing 'My little butter cup' - fantastic!
