Back in the 1960s, The Virginian was a must-see Western adventure series, and this TV movie uses two episodes of The Virginian (We've Lost a Train and Ride a Dark Trail) to explain the origin of another Western series Laredo (which emerged from The Virginian). Trampas (Doug McClure) heads off to Mexico to buy a prize bull, but is sidetracked by three Texas Rangers (Neville Brand, Peter Brown and William Smith) and caught up in an adventure about finding an orphaned baby a home. Although the television-series roots are clearly evident, this is a thoroughly enjoyable Western romp that works well, whether or not you know anything about the television series that inspired it.
