About Sign Language
Did you know that Sky has been providing In-Vision sign language since 2000?
Using our own team of qualified British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters we interpret over 1500 hours a year which means that more and more people are maximising their viewing experience on Sky!
Our interpreters work in different ways and rarely is a script provided.
For a film like The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers which has rather unusual phrases, the whole process can take up to ten hours from start to finish!
The interpreter is then filmed signing the programme and a new master tape is created which is then played out to your home. This is why we can show the same programme sometimes with sign language and sometimes without.
This also explains why the viewer can't turn off the signing because they are imbedded onto the screen. Technology is not yet available to enable the interpreter to be switched on and off, but we're working on it!
