Bernadette Peters

Born: 28 February 1948
Where: Queens, New York, USA

Bernadette is an acclaimed actress on Broadway, film, and TV.

She started out in TV at the age of five, and by ten was appearing in Broadway shows.

Her first starring role on Broadway was in Las Strada - an ill-fated musical that closed on opening night.

Soon, as more tempting offers began to come in, Bernadette began to make a name for herself on stage and won her first Tony award.

Her film acting debut came in 1973 in Ace Eli and Rodger of the Skies. She then played opposite Steve Martin in The Jerk and became a dependable supporting actress that producers could call on.

One of Bernadette's most famous part was of the dishonest Lilly, in the famous Movie musical Annie.

In Pink Cadillac Bernadette played opposite Clint Eastwood, and in 1996 she returned to her musical roots and sang a solo concert at Carnegie Hall.

In the same year Bernadette's voice was put to good use again as the character of Sophie in the animated feature Anastasia.

Bernadette's film career was given some more credence after she appeared as an overprotective Jewish mother in the independent feature Let It Snow, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 1999.

Bernadette's recurring role on Ally McBeal in 2001 brought her memorable voice and scarlet hair to new generation.

Most recently she undertook role of Mama Rose in Broadway revival of Gypsy, staged by Oscar winning British director Sam Mendes.
