The actor is best known as the long-suffering partner of cop Mel Gibson in the Lethal Weapon action thriller series.
Other roles have ragned from an ensemble appearace in The Royal Tenenbaums to the musical biopic Dreamgirls.
The son of postal workers who were active in the black civil rights NAACP, Glover grew up with a love for sports. He graduated from from San Francisco's George Washington High School before attending American University and matriculating at San Francisco State University.
He made his feature debut with a tiny role in Escape From Alcatraz and went on to have forgettable parts in Chu Chu and the Philly Flash as well as Out.
Glover first attracted attention as Sally Field's farmhand in Places in the Heart and went on to play a murderous cop opposite Harrison Ford in Witness.
Roles in the Western Silverado and The Color Purple (as the sleazy Mister) followed before he was again cast as a cop in the sci-fi thriller Predator 2.
In 1990, he played a superstitious mobster in A Rage In Harlem and was then cast by Richard Donner as cop Roger Murtaugh in Lethal Weapon.
The profile the box-office topping series gave him allowed him to pursue smaller projects like To Sleep With Anger.
In 1998 he provided the voice of Barbatus in Antz and the voice of Jethro in the Prince of Egypt.
He featured in an all-star cast including Gene Hackman and Gwyneth Paltrow in The Royal Tenenbaums and played a detective in the horror-thriller SAW.
Glover had a recurring role in medical drama ER and in 2005 appeared in the family comedy The Shaggy Dog.
In 2006, he played "the cowboy" in the African drama Bamako and went on play Marty Madison in the musical biopic Dreamgirls.
He played Colonely Isaac Johnson in the high adrenalin outing Shooter and also appeared in director John Sayles' Honeydripper in 2007.
