Peter Hyams
Born: 26th July 1943
Where: New York
Peter studied art and music at Hunter College, and graduated from New York's High School of Music and Art. He also attended Syracuse University, majoring in music and art.
In 1964, Peter became the youngest news anchorman in the country when he joined WCBS-TV in New York.
He left two years later to cover the Vietnam war for a news network, as well as making a documentary on conditions in the battle zone.
Peter went on to teach filmmaking before he wrote and produced his first screenplay in 1971, T.R. Baskin. This led the way for Peter to direct two TV movies, Rolling Man and Goodnight My Love.
He made his feature film directorial debut in with Busting, a film he also wrote. He followed by directing Our Time and Peeper, after which he co-wrote the screenplay for the spy thriller Telefon.
Considered visually innovative were the political sci-fi thriller Capricorn One; Outland, starring Sean Connery; and 2010 which Peter not only wrote and photographed but also produced and directed.
In 1990, Peter wrote and directed Narrow Margin, a remake of a 1950s classic, and four years on returned to sci-fi territory for the Jean-Claude Van Damme futuristic thriller, Timecop.
Unique among contemporary directors, Peter often edits his films, as well as serving as his own cinematographer. He has photographed all of his films since his 1984 movie 2010.
Peter had the duel role of director and director of photography on the thriller The Relic, and later on for The Musketeer.
