Al Pacino gives a very edgy and intelligent performance as Frank Serpico, the honest and idealistic cop who sees corruption all around him.
Based on a true story, director Sidney Lumet's intense and hard-hitting thriller strikes all the right notes and maintains its dramatic tension from beginning to end.
Although Pacino's portrayal dominates the film, all the supporting roles are finely cast, particularly the one played by Tony Roberts, as an officer close to the mayor's investigating committee.
Sharp eyes will spot Oscar winner F Murray Abraham and Judd Hirsch in small roles as cops.
