Not one of Spike Lee's best films, this.
It's a bizarre, message-laden musical burlesque, which focuses on the conflict at an all-black university between the militant activists on campus and the good-time guys of Gamma Phi Gamma fraternity - a sort of 'Animal House' collection of hobbledehoys.
Laurence Fishburne is the best thing in the film as the campus conscience, but Lee, who also features as a character called Half-Pint, uses a sledgehammer-to-crack-a-nut method to put his message over.
And the problem is - what is that message?
