Sigourney Weaver is still Lt Ripley, cast adrift from her homebound vessel by an alien intruder, and the only human survivor of a subsequent crash on to a prison planet whose few inhabitants are the shaven-headed scum of the galaxy - and have no weapons. The alien, regenerating itself via a dog, is soon scuttling into slobbery, heavy-headed, tombstone-toothed action. Similar in structure to the first film, with people creeping around in the dark after an unknown force, there is less of a sense of evil, and more of a simpler science-fiction menace. Naturally, there are still some spine-tingling moments, and addicts will doubtless embrace the creature whole.
